How We Do It:
We train every other sunday throughout the year. We meet at a Menomonee Falls Fire Department station to conduct most trainings. These trainings are conducted by a special group of qualified instructors, mentors, and advisors, all of whom are active certified Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service professionals. Explorers are also given the opportunity to lead a training that they have prepared in advance for. Guided by an adult, these trainings are often classroom related and cover a variety of topics. The explorers get a truly comprehensive view of the fire service.
Supervision
The explorers are supervised at all times and are demonstrated all techniques before applying them. Any skill deemed potentially hazardous or difficult without special training may be explained to the explorers but not practiced.
Facility Tours
In addition, the explorers go a lot of places! Tours of and field trips to other facilities are common. Some examples include:
There are a plethora of opportunities members become eligible for after completing their probationary period with the post.
Why We Do It:
Our mission is to provide career guidance to high school-aged young adults in the fields of fire suppression and emergency medical services, while serving the interests and needs of the citizens and visitors of Menomonee Falls.
We demonstrate this every time we show a new skill, give advice, act as a role model for other youth, or just have a good time. It's quite an experience, being a fire or EMS explorer, and you too can experience this by joining!
